MEET NICOLA.

BREAKING NEW GROUND FOR WORKING MOTHERS

Nicola has always had the ambition to be a driver, but as we all know, life doesn’t always go as planned. After working in transport offices and childcare whilst raising two kids of her own she took the plunge and got her Class 2 license after Covid before joining The Sofa Delivery Company.

Being one of only a few female drivers doesn’t phase her, and she credits her success to her determination. “I’m the kind of person who won’t give up until it’s done.” She’s used to people doubting her, but when she realised her team were all pretty sound she knew she’d fit right in. “I’ve proved people wrong, on a personal level as well.”

The 4 days on, 4 days off work schedule means she can balance her responsibilities at home and at work. “I love the job, it’s hard graft, but I love the feeling of satisfaction.”Driver life isn’t always easy, she gets all she support she needs — and it works just fine with being a parent. “The kids know my schedule.”

She’s proud to work for a company that looks out for her. “They genuinely care how you’re feeling.” She loves the family feel she gets working with her team. Never being alone, even in the van, there’s always someone else going through the same things you are. “It’s more like a family than just colleagues.”

What’s next for Nicola? She’s got her eye on getting a Class 1 license, which means driving large HGV trucks — and knowing her we’d bet on that happening one day!
